Having Fun & Finding Friends

Dear Barbarians,

After a few tournaments in Thane and an increasingly great turn out of players for these events – something that we can certainly all be very proud of! – we have discussed a few structural matters regarding the organisation of these events for the Barbarians.

With the increasing success we are facing the problem that each player is getting less and less actual playing time. While some may be happy with this most of us are quite enthusiastic about being on the pitch and less enthusiastic about being on the side line. We took the decision that those who are regulars during the weekly Sunday practice should be privileged in the matches in Thane as well and get the lion share of the playing time.

We therefore have developed a system which appreciates turning up regularly on Sundays and also takes into account that quite a few of us are forcibly away over longer periods (on rigs, holidays etc.) but make great efforts to come when in Bombay.

Every Barbarian collects points during Sunday practice by turning up or by being absent for a reason.

Show up on Sunday:     1 Point

Excused absence:        ½ Point

Unexcused absence:     0 Points

A list with all the players names will be updated every Sunday. The list will be organised between Luis, Jem, Ray, Carlos and Jan. We will try to send the updated list around before the games in Thane.

The players with most points will get the starting positions and the longest playing time during the Thane matches – if they inform the organisers for the Thane games (see list keepers above) that they are coming at least 5 days in advance so that we can plan the team. However, players with less point will still get their share of the games.

We hope that with this system we can get a balance between remaining an open group that welcomes every newcomer and appreciating those who are always around on Sundays.
